Meet the Team!
Kathleen (Kay) Adams, Founder/Director
Kay Adams is a licensed professional counselor in private practice who has been a journal writer since the age of 10. She is the president and CEO of the Center for Journal Therapy, Inc., which she founded in 1988, and also serves as director of its professional training division, the fully on-line Therapeutic Writing Institute. Kay is the author/editor of twelve books on writing as a tool for healing, growth, and change, including the best-selling Journal to the Self. A tireless advocate for the power of writing for conscious living, Kay has worked with populations as diverse as women with breast cancer and men with HIV/AIDS. Kay has never quite grasped the difference between work and play, and the Journalverse is the latest expression of this.
Lynn Southard, Journalverse Manager
Lynn Southard took over Journalverse management in the summer of 2016. She and her husband Andy are “urban pioneers” who moved to an intentional community near downtown Denver from their north suburban home when their only child, Holden, started at the University of Colorado. Lynn is an avid reader and book group member. In addition to managing the Journalverse, she is in charge of the Journal to the Self instructor certification training and CJT’s social media.
Krista Gano, Program Director and Improvisor
Krista Gano joined the CJT team in February 2012, and we can’t remember how we managed without her creative problem-solving skills. Krista is the former executive director of LA’s famous improvisational acting school, the Groundlings, and has an extensive background in acting, directing, and creative arts management. Krista wrangles the on-line Therapeutic Writing Institute’s five terms per year and oversees all other CJT programs. Krista is married to Greg, a musician, and is mom to two lively boys who love dinosaurs and mischief.
Margaret Rode, Web Goddess
Margaret Rode is the owner of Websites for Good and has been creating and maintaining the Center for Journal Therapy’s websites for the entire 21st century. Her motto is, “Have fun. Live well. Do good.” In addition to being a masterful web wizard, she is a brilliant creative writer and loves to explore “that dicey intersection of living a luscious life and living a responsible life” — the place where “green” and “hedonist” meet. She loves the mountainous outdoors and has a wicked sense of humor.
Maria Kauffman, Design Artist and Iconographer
Maria Kauffman is a graphic artist who specializes in book covers. She is the graphic artist for Kay’s It’s Easy to W.R.I.T.E. expressive writing book series. We were plenty thrilled when she accepted our invitation to free-lance the banner design for the Journalverse and make it compatible with the series. When asked to create some “writerly” graphic elements for the site, she came up with an ingenious hand-drawn symbolic language for the Journalverse’s many features and benefits.
