Prompt Jar: Halloween

Hi! Im Melissa Benjamin, the Journalverse manager.

I love Halloween. I love the candy, costumes, and the spooky miasma hanging over it all. I love the associated humor (see SNL’s David Pumpkins and 30 Rock’s Werewolf Bar Mitzvah) and the associated horror. Here’s a week of Halloween prompts to continue the festivities!

Monday: What is your favorite Halloween memory?

Tuesday: Make a Halloween collage! I strongly encourage you to dig into a bag of fun size candy as you create.

Wednesday: What is the spookiest thing that’s ever happened to you?

Thursday: Describe the magical witch or wizard version of yourself that may or may not live in a parallel universe.

Friday: Write from the perspective of the ghosts who live in your house.

Saturday: Do you consider yourself a superstitious person?

 Sunday: Write a spell.

Monday – my most vivid, haunting Halloween memory…young, restless, angry, frustrated all because I wasn’t allowed to ride my boyfriend’s motorcycle (who promptly dropped me from his best-girl list). I rose above that bit of irony that dreary Halloween night by lining up empty beer bottles to the oncoming tires of traffic. Not my usual self. The next day, shame over-rode all feelings of love lost.

So, of all the tires I damaged long, long ago, I offer my sincere apology. And to Bill who dropped me because I wasn’t allowed to ride his motorcycle…you lost, buddy!

Frances, we’re witnessing your amends to the tires (and their drivers) and celebrating your note to Bill. Did writing this shift the haunting any?

Thanks, Kay. Yes, it did shift the haunting…it made me laugh! To think I still remember it 30 years later. 🙂

    TUESDAY – COLLAGE
I have a great collage on my computer but I don’t know how to get it to here. Won’t let me copy and paste. Any suggestions?
